Last night the Goldhawk flatties + the honorary flattie Charlotte headed to Marble Arch for a spot of Lebanese at Beirut Express. Charlotte, who moved out of the flat on Sunday (after 52 days by my count, 40 by her count, of living with us), offered to take the flatties, myself, Yam and Johann out for dinner. Beirut is a favourite of Charlotte’s – and mine – so it is understandable that she choose this place (although it is cheap too and I have to wonder if this played a part in the decision process).
We had planned to go at 7, but Johann couldn’t make that early after work, so things were pushed back to 7.30pm. Charlotte and I had planned to meet at the bus stop at 7 and head to Marble Arch. However, Charlotte being Charlotte, was running late. In hindsight, I should have allowed for this by not telling her that Johann and I had agreed to make the new time 7.30, because, we were indeed, running half an hour late. Charlotte blamed her lateness on the allure of the plum wine that her boss offered her….
Anyway, 8pm, and we arrive at the restaurant. Luckily, (though not for Johann) the central line was down, which meant that Yam was running late too. As per normal at Beirut Express we had to wait a bit for a table, but it is always worth the wait. Charlotte, under my instructions, took charge and ordered a few plates for us all to share. An hour and a half later, we were done. Food good, hospitality repaid – all in all a good night.
It was great having Charlotte around at the flat and it was even greater having her treat us all to dinner!
